Fall Tree Project

Friday, October 2, 2015
Last year, I found an amazing project for Fall on A Clutter-Free Classroom!  I enjoyed creating a similar project with my students. This year turned out better than last and I wanted to share it with you!!!

The first thing that I did, was have students (of course) put their name on the back!  Lol. I forgot this last year. Next, we talked about the colors of Fall. I passed out those colors of tempts paint to the groups. I gave them a small amount because I wanted them to use less paint so that it would dry faster. Then, I had them create a sunset. Thankfully we had some beautiful sunsets this week, so they had images in their head and tried to create those sunsets.

After they dried, I had them freehand a tree with branches. I did a sample on the board and shared ideas from last years blog post. I explained that their trees had to be about 2 inches shorter than the black paper. This way it wouldn't reach the top of the page with the sunset. I told them they could add a hill too it if they wanted. Once they were done with drawing the tree, I had them cut it out and glue it on the sunset. I explained that the bottom should be all along the bottom of the sunset so the tree doesn't look like its floating. Lol. They turned out amazing!!!!

I am so proud of how well these projects turned out!  I can't wait to put them up on my bulletin board tomorrow!!!!!!!

Listening:  I am listening to the end of last nights True Tori.  I was always a huge 90210 fan and really love Donna Martin!

Loving:  I love Fall.  It's my FAVORITE time of year!

Thinking:  I am planning a NorCal Teacher Meet Up!!!  I have been wanting to do this since I was in Vegas at the TpT Conference!  It's happening!  I can't wait!!!!!  If you are interested, please let me know!  Click on the link above!  :)

Wanting:  I really want a Starbucks red cup, filled with peppermint hot chocolate, and my blankets!  They are all part of my whole Loving Fall theme!  :)

Needing:  My house is a disaster!  I have too much stuff.  I really need to go through it all and get it out of here.  Thankfully, this coming weekend is a 3 day weekend…anyone want to venture a guess about what I will be doing?  :)

Reading:  Nothing.  I just brought a book, so I am hoping to start that soon.  It's been SO busy!

Totem Pole Project, Red Ribbon Week, and October Book Reports

Tuesday, November 4, 2014
My students have been working away on projects this year!  One of the projects that they completed a couple of weeks ago was their Totem Pole Project!  They came out so well!  This idea was passed down from a previous 5th grade, now 1st grade, teacher.  She did this with her class and I decided to do it with mine as well.  Man am I glad I did!  They came out great.  Each student created a totem pole and brought it into class.  We used this as a way to kick off our Native Americans unit in Social Studies.  Here are a couple of my favorites!!!

One thing that I really enjoy is that our librarian and I switch off months for book report assignments.  I had the month of October and I assigned my class a fun book report project!  I found it on FirstPalette.com and decided to assign mystery as the genre for the month.  Hmmm….I wonder why?  :)  This book report came out better than I expected!  We now have a pumpkin patch in our classroom!!!

Red Ribbon Week is a really important week.  At our school, we had themes that the kids followed.  Monday was wear a red shirt day to kick off Red Ribbon Week.  Tuesday, we turned our backs to drugs and wore our PE shirts backwards.  Wednesday, students wore red socks.  Thursday, students wore hats to put a cap on drugs.  Friday, students wore costumes to scare drugs away!  Our school campus was decorated with red ribbons on trees, poles, and tables.  I also found this idea from The Sharpened Pencil and LOVED the idea.  So I went to work with the help of my amazingly artistic assistant and got the ribbons cut.  I ran to Michael's (twice) to get the letters and printed the pledge!  I put them together on Sunday night and on Monday of Red Ribbon Week, all of the students signed their classes ribbon.  These hung all week and parents that came for parent-teacher conferences were able to see them.

On a totally different note….how cute are these????  This was a little goodies from our Principal and Vice Principal for the week of Parent-Teacher Conferences and Halloween!

I hope you all have had an amazing October!!!

Better late than never…right?  This has been an absolutely INSANE 6 days!  It's been bad news after bad new, after bad news.  Having my October Currently to look forward to, makes me excited!

Tonight, I am watching Dancing with the Stars.  I am a huge Antonio Sabato Jr. fan.  I also love PLL, so Janelle is another fav!  And who doesn't LOVE Carlton and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air!  :)  Ok…had to take a break and cry as I watched Bethany and Derek dance.  I am back…

I love that Fall is coming. Right now, here in California (I live in the Bay Area), it is running in the high 90's to low 100's.  We are desperate for RAIN!  Things are so dry.  Fires have been raging.  We need RAIN!!!!!!

On a harder note…One of the things that is weighing on my mind tonight, is that fact that one of my students is missing.  His mother abandoned him earlier in June and showed up the other night, taking him and falling on the planet.  He is a sweet boy.  I am so concerned for him and his mother.  His mom needs some serious help and I am hoping they find both of them safe and sound.  If you are a person who prays, please send on up for him!

Finally…a TREAT!!!  If you follow my TpT store, I will be sending out a treat next week!  If you don't yet, head on over and check it out…My TpT Store!  I am new to the TpT world and I am excited to share with you!

Happy Monday!!!!!
